Election Day Clerk Details

Thank you for joining our team to help insure a lawful and fair voting experience for people in NE Tarrant County!  I always enjoy making new friends when working shoulder to shoulder on Election Day.

Many details are included below but please let me know if I have left out anything.  If you have a question it's a pretty good bet that someone else does as well. You can text me or call me at 817-366-2338.
Laura Oakley

Date:
- Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, 2022

Time:
Election Day is 5:30am - 8:30pm. This includes any set up and break down.  We do have to close up after the last voter is finished so we could run over if voting is extra heavy right at closing.  We stop the line from forming at 7pm since that is the official cut off time.  Some of you are only here for a half day. I will be texting you directly with your specific information.

Location:
- Election Day is at the Grapevine Public Library, 1201 Municipal Way, Grapevine, TX

What to Wear (and what not to wear):
- Be comfortable but neat
-Poll workers are prohibited from wearing anything that identifies a political party or a candidate - Neutral is the word of the day.
- Voters have more leeway and may not wear anything that identifies a candidate or a measure on the current ballot.  Example:  a Trump or Biden shirt/hat is okay. They may also wear apparel that identifies a political party.
- Comfortable shoes are always a good idea but no one will be on their feet all day since we do rotate positions.
- I advise dressing in layers and bringing a light jacket or sweater.  You just never know how hot or cold a room will be.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD?
- Definitely plan on bringing any special snacks you want to have throughout the day and for lunch/dinner as well as any drinks.  You may have food orders delivered to our location.
- You may bring a small cooler
- There is a small kitchenette attached to our room with a microwave and medium sized fridge which we may use.

TRAINING:
Clerks, especially new ones, do need to learn how to set up/break down equipment as well as how to operate it.

Here is the online training class. It's about 2 hours and very helpful! NOT REUIRED but recommended - very helpful.

Election Day
  • Tarrant County Elections - Election Day Worker Training (Primary) PDF Version

There are some additional Online Training Videos (link below) from Tarrant County.  These are each approx. 1-5 minutes long (about 45 minutes to watch them all).  Please watch them all at least one time before Election Day. (Pay special attention to the following videos: Curbside Voting, Processing Provisional Voters, and Reprinting Barcodes)

We will have on-site manuals for reference and several seasoned pros so do not be concerned or overwhelmed thinking you'll have to know and remember it all!

MASKS /CLEANING PROTOCOLS:

We do NOT require masks to be worn by poll workers or voters.
- You may choose to wear a mask or shield, if you prefer.
- We will have masks available if anyone wants one.
- Please be sure that any mask and clothing is free of political statements, party affiliation or candidate names
- No one will ever be prevented from wearing a mask.
- Voters are not required to wear a mask but we will have masks on hand and can provide them if requested.
- Hand sanitizer is available to voters upon entry and exit.
- Equipment will be cleaned and sanitized regularly throughout the voting day.

FINAL DETAILS:
- You will not be on your feet all day.

- Cell phones are not allowed while performing our poll worker responsibilities.  There will be opportunities for brief breaks when you will be able to check for messages.

- Feel free to bring a book, magazine, etc... if you want.  I do not anticipate having many slow periods since Grapevine is always a very busy voting center.

- We rotate through different activities/roles so please watch all of the training videos at least once so that you are somewhat familiar with terms and overall use of equipment.
