Election Clerk Details
Thank you for joining our team to help insure a lawful and fair voting experience for people in Grapevine! Mike and I always enjoy making new friends when working shoulder to shoulder on Election Day (maybe not that close right now, though!)
I have included many details below so let me know if I have left out anything. If you have a question it's a pretty good bet that someone else does as well. You can text me or call me at 817-366-2338.
I will be hosting a short training team meeting on Sunday, Nov 1st from 3:00 to 4:30pm. We will be reviewing everyone's training and discussing the process of Election Day. The location will be my home: 2121 Lakeridge Dr., Grapevine, TX 76051

Date: Tuesday, November 3, 2020
Time: 6:00am - 8:00pm
This includes any set up and break down. We do have to close up after the last voter is finished so we could run over if voting is extra heavy right at closing. We do stop the line from forming at 7pm since that is the official cut off time.
Location: The Rec, 1175 Municipal Way, Grapevine, TX 76051
What to Wear (and what not to wear):
-Be comfortable but neat
-Workers and voters are prohibited from wearing anything that identifies a political party or a candidate - Neutral is the word of the day.
-Comfortable shoes are always a good idea but no one will be on their feet all day since we do rotate positions.
-I advise dressing in layers and bringing a light jacket or sweater. You just never know how hot or cold a room will be.
Getting Paid: Everyone gets paid - Woo Hoo! When we are working together you will fill out a form that will be turned into the administration. They mail the checks directly to you. Hopefully, they now have an option for direct deposit but I am not sure of that just yet.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD?
-I always like to provide some special snacks and a little lunch for everyone. We'll be ordering trays of nuggets from Chick-Fil-A as well as a few other goodies.
-Definitely plan on bringing any special snacks you want to have throughout the day and for dinner as well as any drinks. You may have food orders delivered to our location.
-You may bring a small cooler
-There is a lounge just down the hall from where we are set up. Not sure if we are allowed to use it but I am planning on each of you being able go there when taking a break to eat. There is also a "backstage" area adjacent to our voting set up and that could also be used to step away for a mental or snack break.
-The REC does have vending machines for all kinds of beverages (Gatorade, water, sodas, etc...) as well as a snack counter with a few treats like pretzels w/hummus, chips, and more.

TRAINING:
Clerks, especially new ones, do need to learn how to set up/break down equipment as well as how to operate it.
There is a two hour training class for equipment set up and break down. It is a paid training. Below is the link to sign up for your date/time.
They have many options but I suggest signing up and getting the training done as soon as possible. Some of the classes are already full!
After you click on the link you will need to look for the training called "Equipment open & close only". You will find two hour classes starting at 9am, 1pm, & 5pm, Monday-Saturday. NOTE: Late arrivals are not admitted so please arrive 5-10 minutes early.
2 Hour Equipment Open & Close Only Training Sign Up
There are also Online Training Videos (link below). These are approx 1-5 minutes long (about 45 minutes to watch them all). Please watch them all at least one time before Nov. 3rd. (Please pay special attention to the following videos: Curbside Voting, Processing Provisional Voters, and Reprinting Barcodes)
https://www.tarrantcounty.com/en/elections/education-and-training/Election-Training-Videos.html
We will have on-site manuals for reference so do not be concerned or overwhelmed thinking you'll have to know and remember it all!

MASKS /CLEANING PROTOCOLS:
According to the documentation from the Elections Administration, "poll workers must wear a mask when interacting with another person or when within 6 feet of another person".
The Governor's order has stated that voters and poll workers are exempt which is at odds with what the county is saying. I am awaiting clarification. At this time we will be wearing masks according to the guidelines listed above.
-You may choose to wear whatever mask or shield you prefer.
-We will have masks available if you forget yours or do not have one.
-Please be sure that any mask is free of political statements, party affiliation or candidate names
-No one will ever be prevented from wearing a mask.
-Voters are not required to wear a mask but we will have masks on hand and may offer them one if they need it.
-I have been to the REC several times and have only seen one voter without a mask.
-There are social distance markers on the floor for the voters in line.
-Hand sanitizer is available to voters upon entry and exit. They are encouraged to use it.
-Equipment will be cleaned each hour with approved sanitizing wipes.
-I will be providing hand sanitizer at each work station as well as a tub of sanitizing wipes.

FINAL DETAILS:
You will not be on your feet all day.
We rotate through different activities/roles so please watch all of the training videos at least once so that you are somewhat familiar with terms and overall use of equipment.
We most likely will not have to set up the equipment since it's already being used at our location during early voting. I do NOT know this for sure but am pursuing an answer from the Elections Administration
