Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God. – 1 Peter 5:6 Moses continually reminded the people of Israel of the mighty hand of God which they first witnessed as they were led from captivity out of Egypt. “To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him” (Deuteronomy 4:35). Hundreds of years later, Daniel turned his face to the Lord and pleaded for this same nation which was again in captivity because of its sins and rebelliousness. Today many pray that the Lord would be merciful to this nation; its sins are great and a large number of its people have turned from God to follow their own desires rather than heed His voice. The evil of men’s hearts, and the working of Satan, is evident in the destruction of people’s property and the vitriol that comes from the mouths of those who seek to agitate and destroy a country once proud of the good it can do and people it can help. The United States was and is a nation formed under God’s mighty hand – its Founding Fathers knew that they had a duty to establish a nation with rights given by the Creator, truths that were self-evident. But the Creator God demands a humble nation, one that knows its capabilities but also understands from whom they are derived. This country needs your prayers. Plead for discernment to make proper choices for those who will determine the direction this country will take. Individuals that think more of others than themselves, respect the opinions of others, carry forth the ideals of those pioneers of this unique government. May God’s mighty hand shine forth. AS THE LORD LEADS, PRAY… - For safety and good health for the president as he travels. - For God to be at work through the efforts of the president and Congressional leaders as they look to pass this new legislation. - For guidance for the president as he tackles the many issues facing the nation in the midst of his campaign travel. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
